The American diet consists of  high amounts of ready made fast foods that are eaten on the run and sometimes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (grab the bag, eat and return to our fast paced lifestyle)  Unfortunately, these fast foods contain very little nutritional value.  Because of this, many people are having significant health problems like a poorly functioning immune system, high cholesterol levels,  digestive problems, bones and joints are weak and painful, plus many other minor and major health issues.  This lifestyle can only lead to Doctor visits and pharmaceutical drugs for the rest of your life unless you wake up and make some life changes.  In order to improve your life the diet must be changed to include whole grains, lean meat and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.  (This means the food does not come out of a can)  Your body needs high quality vitamins and minerals every day!  There are many books available that can show you and put you on a healthy path that will change your life.  It is not an easy path, but a very rewarding path.  To get you started here are five supplements that are very important for your body and should be taken daily.

Probiotics:  To improve digestive health and keep it functioning properly, it is very important to take a good Probiotic on a daily basis.  Probiotics can boost the immune system, alleviate diarrhea and vaginal yeast infections.  Probiotics are live beneficial bacteria that assist the body in digestion.

Zinc:  boosts the immune system, so infections and viruses can be fought off more easily and it improves the appetite and sense of taste.  It also works with vitamin A to assist in good vision and is important for children and women.

Omega-3:  Both fish oil and flax seed oil provide basic Omega-3’s which helps to prevent stroke or heart attack, reduce inflammation and cholesterol in the body.  Brain and cognitive issues can be improved with Omega-3 oils.

Vitamin C:  Vitamin C is water soluble and the body cannot make this vitamin on its own.  It is difficult to get enough Vitamin C from fruits and vegetables so a supplement should be taken daily.  Vitamin C is important for a healthy immune system and can help prevent heart disease and cataracts.

Vitamin D:  If you spend the majority of your day and leisure time indoors you should take a daily supplement of 5000 to 10,000 IU.  Vitamin D is vital to maintaining healthy teeth and bones to help absorb calcium and phosphorous.  “D” is also essential for heart and lung health and from getting infections.

All of these supplements are very safe to take and have no  harmful side effects.  Always check with your doctor to make sure they will not interfere with any other medications.  “Sholly Sez.”
